Adults in an educational orchestra?
In a word: Yes!
Orchestra School of Central Ohio is all about learning and growing, no matter our age. Our inter-generational environment maximizes your learning potential.
Seize the day!
Orchestra School meets during the day. No evening rehearsals, no late-night driving. We rehearse for two hours, weekly September – May.
Continuing education
… and continuing growth. You have many options for life-long learning, here’s why Orchestra School is right for you:
- Experienced teaching: Our classes are taught by a music teacher and symphony musician who has taught adults and seniors for many years. Have you ever played in a group where the leader said ‘good job’ but you know you made mistakes? At Orchestra School we teach. We’ll help you find the mistakes, learn how to remedy them, and help you acquire new skills, all in a welcoming setting.
- About that setting: Orchestra School is an all-ages group, so you’ll enjoy meeting and playing with like-minded adult amateurs, and getting to know our teen musicians. And we have several adult mentor musicians and educators playing throughout the orchestra, ready to help you settle in and answer any instrument-specific questions.
- No homework! (Well, just a little.) Most Orchestra School learning takes place in the classroom, and isn’t about learning notes, but learning to play as an orchestra. Your homework each week is to review the class material to solidify learning, not drill notes and passages until they’re perfect. Enroll for the two hour weekly class, and spend a little time during the week on review, that’s it. You have enough deadlines and to-do lists, Orchestra School is an enjoyable way to continue growing, and will fit into even the busiest of schedules.
- Learn with students of all ages: Music is for all ages, and so is Orchestra School. Studying music alone or only with contemporaries can limit our creative range. Our multi-generational setting expands your peer group and opens up a range of musical ideas. The education you receive in class is enriched as we utilize diverse learning styles in a collaborative environment.
Make music
Whether you’ve played for years, or played years ago, there’s no denying the joy of making music with others. New research tells us that making music even benefits our health and longevity. Enroll in Orchestra School to learn and grow, and enjoy participating in an activity that is integral to all humankind.
